"A Message From Glenn
If you are like me, watching the news or reading the paper can be an exercise in exasperation. It’s so hard to find a place that helps me make sense of the world I see.
Too many important stories are overlooked. And too many times we see mainstream media outlets distorting facts to fit rigid agendas. Not that you’ve ever heard me complain about the media before. Okay, maybe once or twice.
But there comes a time when you have to stop complaining and do something. And so we decided to hire some actual journalists to launch a new website — The Blaze. And we moved fast. We built the team and the site in just two months.
We want this to be a place where you can find breaking news, original reporting, insightful opinions and engaging videos about the stories that matter most.
The Blaze will be about current news — and more. It’s not just politics and policy. It’s looking for insight wherever we find it. We’ll examine our culture, deal with matters of faith and family, and we won’t be afraid of a history lesson.
Flame is a powerful image. It has long stood for a burning truth. A truth that is not consumed. The Blaze will pursue truth. Of course we will make mistakes. Honest mistakes. And we’ll be quick with corrections. We intend to earn your trust and keep it day in and day out with hard work and a lot of transparency.
And don’t expect everything to be deadly serious. Boring is bad. We intend to have plenty of fun.
We’ve put together a solid team of writers and reporters. I intend to keep them busy by sending a zillion story ideas at all hours.
We’re also counting on you. Your comments. Your feedback. Your tips! You will help us build and shape The Blaze.
Thank you in advance.

"California officials are outfitting preschoolers in Contra Costa County with tracking devices they say will save staff time and money.
The system was introduced Tuesday. When at the school, students will wear a jersey that has a small radio frequency tag. The tag will send signals to sensors that help track children's whereabouts, attendance and even whether they've eaten or not.
School officials say it will free up teachers and administrators who previously had to note on paper files when a child was absent or had eaten.
Sung Kim of the county's employment and human services department said the system could save thousands of hours of staff time and pay for itself within a year.
It cost $50,000 and was paid by a federal grant."

"In a swift and unexpected decision, the Environmental Protection Agency today rejected a petition from environmental groups to ban the use of lead in bullets and shotgun shells, claiming it doesn't have jurisdiction to weigh on the controversial Second Amendment issue. The decision came just hours after the Drudge Report posted stories from Washington Whispers and the Weekly Standard about how gun groups were fighting the lead bullet ban.
"The EPA had planned to solicit public responses to the petition for two months, but this afternoon issued a statement rejecting a 100-page request from the Center for Biological Diversity, the American Bird Conservancy, and three other groups for a ban on lead bullets, shot, and fishing sinkers. The agency is still considering what to do about sinkers.
The decision was a huge victory for the National Rifle Association which just seven days ago asked that the EPA reject the petition, suggesting that it was a back door attempt to limit hunting and impose gun control. It also was a politically savvy move to take gun control off the table as the Democrats ready for a very difficult midterm election."

"(Reuters) - The Muslim center planned near the site of the World Trade Center attack could qualify for tax-free financing, a spokesman for City Comptroller John Liu said on Friday, and Liu is willing to consider approving the public subsidy.
The Democratic comptroller's spokesman, Scott Sieber, said Liu supported the project. The center has sparked an intense debate over U.S. religious freedoms and the sanctity of the Trade Center site, where nearly 3,000 perished in the September 11, 2001 attack.
"If it turns out to be financially feasible and if they can demonstrate an ability to pay off the bonds and comply with the laws concerning tax-exempt financing, we'd certainly consider it," Sieber told Reuters.

Scott Rigell Asked if he Ever Supported Obama: ""Yeah, NO, not in a, not in a literal, not in a literal sense..."
According to an article on Smart Girl Politics Rigell's reason for supporting Obama was because:
"The only alternative on the Democratic side was Senator Obama. Yes, I was moved by his rhetoric and by the prospect of seeing a minority rise to the highest office in our land. If we were to end up with a Democrat President I wanted that person to be Obama, not Clinton; I was not indifferent to the two possible outcomes.”
So he didn't literally support Obama except for Obama's rhetoric and the fact he is a Minority...but that isnt considered literal by Mr. Rigell.
Really the Question should be why write the check at all?
His website states that he is a "Conservative"...I guess that is until he is scared by a Clinton.. .. then the "Conservative" goes out the Window.

Tucson School District Mexican American Dept Accused of Promoting the Overthrow of the U.S. Government
According to Arizona's Superintendent of Public Instruction, Tom Horne:
"the basic theme of the Mexican-American studies program is that Latino students 'were and continue to be victims of a racist American society driven by the interests of middle- and upper-class whites.'"
The district's goals for its Mexican-American Studies include "social justice" along with "Latino Critical Race Pedagogy,"
There are even claims that:
"pictures of the classroom walls revealed "heroes" such as Che Guevara and Fidel Castro."
Horne sent a letter to the Tucson Superintendent, Tom Carroll, demanding that the Classes be videotaped to ensure that they do not clash with a new Arizona State Law, H.B. 2211, that forbids the promotion of "the Overthrow of the United States Government". Mr. Carroll refused claiming that the filming of the classes would unnecessarily disrupt the classes.
In Horne's letter he claims that:
"teachers and former teachers have reported the "whole inference and tone" of the "Raza Studies" was "anger."
"(They taught students) that the United States was and still is a fundamentally racist country in nature, whose interests are contrary to those of Mexican-American kids," the letter said.
"Individuals in this (Ethnic Studies) department are vehemently anti-Western culture. They are vehemently opposed to the United States and its power. They are telling students they are victims and that they should be angry and rise up," the letter continued."
"A teacher describes how the TUSD administration intimidated him by removing him from his class, and calling him a 'racist,' even though he himself is Hispanic," it added."
The WND Article goes on to say that:
"The state officials charged that Tucson "has hired a group of radical socialist activists who promote an anti-capitalist and anti-Western Civilization ideology. They use ethnic solidarity as their vehicle of delivery. A climate of outright intimidation has stopped many from standing up to this group for fear of being labeled racists. "
Further, "Impressionable youth in TUSD have literally been reprogrammed to believe that there is a concerted effort on the part of a white power structure to suppress them and relegate them to a second-class existence. This fomented resentment further encourages them to express their dissatisfaction through the iconoclastic behavior we see – the contempt for all authority outside of their ethnic community and their total lack of identification with the political heritage of this country. "
According to a report in a local Tucson Paper, one of the books used by the class is called "Occupied America: A History of Chicanos".
Listed among the Goals on the Mexican American Studies website are :
"•Advocating for and providing curriculum that is centered within the pursuit of social justice.
•Working towards the invoking of a critical consciousness within each and every student.
•Providing and promoting teacher education that is centered within Critical Pedagogy, Latino Critical Race Pedagogy, and Authentic Caring.
•Promoting and advocating for social and educational transformation."
Because the School District have refused to video tape the classes, starting Jan 1st when the new law takes effect, the State of Arizona can withhold 10% of the Districts State funding.
But according to the Tucson Board President, Judy Burns:
"We don't teach all those ugly things they think we're teaching."
I have a feeling that he will somehow blame Bush for it when he realizes the people are not going to like the Tax Increases and the Health Care Rationing.
I Predict this Video will come back and bite the DNC in the butt... Probably in a Political Commercial.

The senior citizen -- one of Pascrell's constituents -- asks a reasonable question related to the government's role in the healthcare industry, and Pascrell's response is both arrogant and insulting."
The March to the Arch is a 21-mile memorial walk that begins in West County and concludes at the base of the Gateway Arch. The walk was started by St. Louis businessman Bo Drochelman on 9-11-02 when he walked the route by himself in remembrance of those who lost their lives on 9/11--and for all other fallen Americans. Bo Drochelman decided to walk the distance at close to four o'clock in the afternoon that day after leaving a note for his wife. "I just felt I had to do something, and it had to be a sacrifice of some sort," Drochelman said. "It couldn't be easy. Writing a check would not be sufficient. I almost needed the physical trauma of the walk to cleanse the hurt and anger. It was a momentary release and a feeling of satisfaction that I did something to show these people that I cared."
There is no money involved in this walk. It is simply a walk to celebrate the freedom of America and all those who have died for it. We hope you will join us this year in our trek to the Gateway Arch!
Bring Your American Flags and Join with Americans from all walks of Life in remembering 9/11.

This new Arson Attack on Russ Carnahan's Office in St. Louis, and the subsequent arrest of a 50 year old Male suspect, begs the question.
Who is this man?
While the local left wing media would Love to pin this attack on some "Tea Party member" or some "Right Wing Radical", recent History shows a different kind of trend. Leftest Extremists Love to Attack Other Leftest ....
Remember this last year when a Democratic Office in Denver had it's windows broke out and the Media first blamed it on Republicans unhappy with Obama Care? Well the Truth was a little different:
Or this Article from 2008, when an SEIU office in Puerto Rico was vandalized by a teachers union because of SEIU's attempts to take them over and break their strike:
"On May 23, some anonymous actors left acid on a window of the SEIU union office on Mission St in Santa Cruz, and spray painted the walls red and black with anarchy signs and revolutionary slogans:
"Solidarid@d Puerto Rico" SEIU is currently engaged in trying to break and control a nation-wide teachers' strike against the puppet government of Puerto Rico, a US colony.
This is a perfect example of the role unions inevitably play in co-opting, selling out, and even crushing real strikes and revolutionary upsurges. For more documentation of this treachery, visit pr.indymedia.org en espanol, or simply search the internet for "puerto rico teachers."
No Matter who this Male Suspect is, the Arson attack on Russ Carnahan's Office is Unacceptable and Wrong. Those who were involved should be punished to the fullest extent of the law.
But for anyone to automatically assume that he is a "Right Wing Extremist" or connected to a "Tea Party" is jumping the gun.
Since the Left does have a History of Violence upon itself, it is not a stretch of the imagination to think that maybe.. just maybe.. This Suspect is one of their own.

"Carnahan Office Firebombed (and Daily Misrepresents August ’09 Incident)
August 18, 2010
by Dana Loesch
.Rep. Russ Carnahan reports that his campaign office was firebombed and a suspect is in custody. Uncool.
From the daily:
Police have arrested a 50-year-old man in connection with what appears to be a firebombing that caused minor damage at the campaign headquarters of U.S. Rep. Russ Carnahan, D-St. Louis.
Firefighters responded after witnesses called about hearing broken glass and later smelling smoke at the office in the 7000 block of Chippewa Street in south St. Louis.
Carnahan’s Republican contender condemned the attack. Excerpt from a press release:
“I was disheartened to hear reports tonight of a suspected arson attack at Congressman Carnahan’s campaign headquarters. While there is obviously a lot of angst and frustration among voters – violence is never the answer! We must all work together to establish a peaceful and prosperous political process. I’m glad to learn police already have a suspect in custody,” said congressional candidate Ed Martin.
The daily reports that a motive is not clear at this time. I’d like to hear what was. A sad story.
Sidenote: I take issue with this in Jake Wagman’s reporting:
Carnahan is weathering a tumultuous political environment. A year ago, several people were arrested at a Carnahan town hall forum after a fracas broke out between protesters and Carnahan supporters.
No. Protesters were harassed by people who identified themselves as Carnahan volunteers and people not even of the 3rd district, OFA bussed people in who were loud and disruptive at the meeting (I know, because they assumed me and the veteran who attended the townhall with me were with OFA and snuck us through the side door), and Carnahan supporters attacked a man they profiled as being a conservative. I and others have endless video and photographic footage of the evening. The “fracas” came from Carnahan supporters and there isn’t a police report or eyewitness that has stated otherwise. To report otherwise is disingenuous and the omission of the above implies that those targeted at the townhall contributed to the “fracas” and whether Wagman intended it or not, further implies that the “fracas” could be linked to the firebombing and that the perpetrator could be a tea partier. Also not cool."

President Barack Obama on Friday endorsed a controversial plan to build a mosque and Islamic center just blocks from Ground Zero in Manhattan, despite the strong objections of conservatives, civic groups and those who lost loved ones in the September 11 attacks.
“Ground Zero is, indeed, hallowed ground,” according to prepared remarks Obama was to deliver at a White House dinner celebrating the Muslim holiday of Ramadan. “But let me be clear: as a citizen, and as President, I believe that Muslims have the same right to practice their religion as anyone else in this country. That includes the right to build a place of worship and a community center on private property in lower Manhattan, in accordance with local laws and ordinances.”
“This is America,” Obama said.
Having steered clear of the controversy for weeks, Obama took on opposition to the mosque directly — a move that many other Democratic lawmakers had been hesitant to do in the face of highly emotional appeals against its construction. But polls indicate the issue could be a high-voltage third rail for politicians who support the project: a recent CNN poll found that 68 percent of those surveyed did not approve of building a mosque so close to where the World Trade Center towers fell, killing more than 2,000 people.
In recent weeks, Press Secretary Robert Gibbs had deflected questions on the issue, insisting it is “a matter for New York City and the local community to decide.” But Obama had been criticized for being slow to weigh in on the controversy, especially in light of his past statements in support of religious freedom and tolerance for Muslims in the United States.
In his speech Friday, Obama called for sensitivity with respect to developing in lower Manhattan, but cautioned against drawing comparisons between mainstream Islam and the ruthlessly violent ideology of al Queda, which he said is a “gross distortion” of the faith.
“Our capacity to show not merely tolerance, but respect to those who are different from us – a way of life that stands in stark contrast to the nihilism of those who attacked us on that September morning, and who continue to plot against us today,” he said.
Earlier this week, in a statement recognizing the onset of the Muslim holy month, Obama said that the rituals of Ramadan “remind us of the principles that we hold in common, and Islam’s role in advancing justice, progress, tolerance, and the dignity of all human beings.”
The event is this White House’s second annual recognition of Ramadan, the Islamic month of fasting, with a traditional iftar dinner—a communal event that traditionally marks the breaking of the fast at sundown."

"November 2009 – Gatewood Co-Organizes an Anti-Semitic “Hate Fest” Under the Banner of His Position with the NAACP
In 2009, Gatewood helped form the “Black is Back Coalition,” with the intent of holding a massive rally in Washington D.C. on November 7th. Gatewood served as the event’s official North Carolina organizer. Among Gatewood’s partners in this coalition were Abdul Alim Musa, the notorious anti-Semite and terrorism supporter who has applauded the murder of Jewish civilians (see background info here and here), and Omali Yeshitela, the longtime black separatist and self-proclaimed foe of the NAACP (whose many racist and radical statements are catalogued here).
In the over one-hundred and forty online references to the Black is Back Coalition, in every instance Gatewood uses his NAACP credentials to describe himself as a member of the coalition.
The “statement” of the coalition includes a direct swipe at President Obama:
“We are determined to shatter the silence and the assumption of universal support for U.S. imperialism within our community because white power is now represented to the world in black face (Obama).”

"Is socialism possible?
by: Rick Nagin
August 9 2010
Given the unprecedented economic, political and military power of the U.S. ruling class, it may seem like a pipedream to believe that working people can ever take over.
And yet, there are good reasons to believe the foundations of this colossus may not be that strong.
First, the natural evolution of capitalism, in which the big fish eat up the small fish, has channeled an unbelievable concentration of wealth into the hands of an extremely tiny group. Only 1% of the population now owns just over half of all stocks and bonds and the richest 5% of the population holds 60% of all the wealth in our country.
In reality, there are a few thousand families with hundreds of millions and billions of dollars in assets who control the main banking, finance, manufacturing, extraction, media, communications, transport, aerospace and real estate corporations.
Second, the corporate system which has nowhere been more successful than in our country, has clearly failed to guarantee basic necessities of life - jobs, health care, housing, education - to the workers and people. In fact, the system is in crisis. The Wall Street meltdown, massive unemployment, stagnant wages, fierce repression of unions, endless wars and a growing, life-threatening environmental crisis have led millions of Americans to question the entire system of corporate power.
The corporate ruling class faces an emerging political problem. During the decades of the Cold War, advocacy of socialism was considered off limits and repressed on pretexts of national security and patriotism. But now with no "enemy" to point to, the idea of socialism has re-emerged with a vengeance.
To the surprise of many, the conservative Rasmussen poll found in April, 2009, that only 53% of Americans believe that capitalism is better than socialism. Twenty per cent said socialism was better with the remainder undecided. For Democrats 30% preferred socialism. For young people it was 33% with only 37% preferring capitalism.
This was evidently not a fluke as the following January the Gallup poll found 36% of Americans and 53% of Democrats have a positive attitude toward socialism while 33% have a negative attitude to capitalism and 49% having a negative attitude to big business.
While the terms, socialism and capitalism, were not defined and may well be vague in people's minds, the polls, nonetheless, reflect the fact that tens of millions of Americans see corporate power as the obstacle to progress and the negation of the democratic ideal of government of the people, by the people and for the people. They favor major curbs on corporate power and believe that the government has a responsibility to guarantee jobs and economic security for working people. They would subscribe to the defining slogan of the progressive movement: People Before Profits.
An especially significant factor in the growing challenge to corporate power is the re-emergence of organized labor with militant and class-conscious leadership. This was signaled by the election in 1995 of John Sweeney, a member of the Democratic Socialists of America, as president of the AFL-CIO, ending decades of conservative leadership that actively collaborated with Cold War anti-communism and offered scant resistance as the corporations suppressed wages and sent jobs abroad.
Labor now has become the magnet around which a broad and growing coalition of progressive forces has emerged. This has taken organizational form in struggles for jobs, health care reform, the right of workers to form unions, the defense of social security and, especially, elections. In fact, labor was critical to Democratic electoral victories in Congress in 2006 and the 2008 Presidential election.
Third, the unprecedented systemic and emerging political crisis has deepened a long-standing division within the tiny corporate ruling class. The dominant section, based in such industries as oil, finance and military contractors, has moved increasingly to the right and pursues vehemently anti-labor, racist, militarist and anti-democratic policies. The minor section is more liberal believing that preservation of corporate power and profits requires that concessions be made to the working class. The division is reflected in the two main political parties.
It was the alliance between liberal and centrist Democrats, the coalition of progressive forces including labor, the African-American community and youth as well as many independents that enabled Barack Obama to be elected. The right-wing, ousted after 30 years of increasingly extremist rule refuses to accept the result of this election and has resorted to unprecedented disruption aimed at destroying the Obama presidency and breaking up the Obama coalition. They hope racism, anti-immigrant prejudice, threats of violence and anger over the continuing economic crisis can be channeled into Republican votes. They have launched and financed the so-called tea party movement raising the specter of fascism.
Labor and its progressive allies recognize the danger and are mobilizing to defend democratic, civil, economic and social rights from the right-wing threat. Once again the progressive coalition is allied with the Democrats as the only way to defeat the ultra-right. The focal point has become the November midterm elections with the aim of holding the line, minimizing setbacks and, where possible, making gains.
Having held power since 1980, the right-wing is deeply entrenched in all branches of government particularly in military, foreign policy and intelligence circles. It also controls major sections of the media, think-tanks and religious groups. Its power will not be destroyed in a few elections and sessions of Congress. We are in for a protracted battle.
The ramifications of this battle go far beyond electoral and legislative politics. Defeat of the right wing of the U.S. ruling class would be a major, possibly decisive, blow to corporate power and set the stage for far-reaching advances, including the possibility of socialism. In other words, the defeat of the ultra-right is both an immediate political and long-range strategic necessity for the working class and broad sections of the people.
The historical experience of countries that established socialism in the 20th century shows that the working class had first to ally with sections of the capitalist class in order to defeat the most reactionary forces. Only then was it possible to overcome the capitalists as a whole.
The building of a multi-class coalition of democratic forces to defeat the ultra-right is a necessary stage in achieving socialism in our country."
